I gott'a addmitt, I do fancy that!

We’d look forward to seeing you,the fishing options are very open, most of the locals seem to concentrate on fly or lure fishing for trout and grayling or predator fishing on the hydro electric reservoirs, leaving a whole range of potential coarse fish options wide open,( I’ve barely scratched the surface). Temperatures drop off a bit in September and likely to still be comfortably warm in October.
A 7 day permit is just 32euros and an annual permit that covers the majority of France is 96, which includes taking of up to 6 trout per day and gathering of snails and frogs (no I’m not making it up!).
If you would like to know more please PM me. Rog

How far are you from Lauzerte in the Lot! I ask because I am visiting a good pal who lives there in a couple of weeks!

We are just under 80 miles away, to the north east, google maps says 1 hr 52. At the moment the gite is available 25-31 August, the rest of the house is a work in progress but may be able to accommodate by then currently working on bathrooms!

Back on topic!

Up at 5am yesterday due to an early start on our club fixture on a lake in Woking. Got a lift down in a mates van as this place is hard to find if you don't know the area. Draw at 7:30 in attempt to avoid the heat of the day. Drew a shady peg but by the all in at 9 I was in full sun and remained so until 3pm.

This lake holds a fair head of bream and these being the target I set up 2 feeder rods both with cage feeders, one with a 2' Hooklink and the other with a short 8" one. Also set up my whip at 5m for some speed fishing for silvers.
Chucked a feeder out to start for half an hour to a spot I'd already primed with 10 feeders of groundbait and dead pinkies.
Not a touch.
Reeled in and started on the whip with pinkie, a couple of perch followed by some roach and mini skimmers followed.
By 11 I had about 2lb of these bits but I could hear some were catching bream so back on the tip.
By midday it was scorching hot and I had no shade, pinkies and maggots were expiring fast despite being in a cool bag.
Still no bites on the tip so I decided to go all out on the whip but the small fish were obviously hot too and had thinned out considerably.
In the end I had just 2:14 of bits and once again cursed myself for not sticking to one method for the entire match. When will I flipping learn?

I had a plan, well more of an objective really, namely to put a bend in the Matchpro Ultralight! I planned just a few hours this afternoon from 1.30 to 4.30 and this was my peg on a local venue!

View attachment 5315

I was after roach but aware of the likelihood of an errant carp putting in an appearance! I fished 4lb line straight through to a small 12 hook and had to offer, dead krilled maggot, soft expander pellet and meat delicately flavoured with mild chili powder! I caught on all 3 but the meat was the favourite by far! I had 19 roach with this being a typical size !

I also had two carp of around 4lb which really put a bend in the rod and which the rod dealt with with aplomb and finesse! I like it! I could also feel all the knocks and pulls on the float through the rod in addition to the visual! I think I prefer 3 hour sessions ,particularly when there is a lot of activity( I missed loads of bites!) but it was hot and got hotter as the afternoon progressed so I succumbed to the lure of an ice cold red stripe!!!!

In a different swim at the reservoir this morning - float and corn had the roach going, hitting the corn before the float has settled or giving superb lift bites, nothing big but enough to be kept busy.
Eventually a bite was signalled on the method feeder rod, the culprit being a bream of 5lb 2oz followed later by another at 2lb 10oz. As the heat built up and the sun became higher the bites fizzled out on the float and as the swim was not heavily shaded it was time to go.

Broadened my education today with my first ever trip sea fishing. Went with two of my friends mackerel fishing off Chesil Beach at Abbotsbury. Absolute prefect day, the Sea was flat carm and not a breath of wind. We got there at around 0830am. The only way I can describe it is to say there were more people there than I have seen at Goose Fair on a Saturday night (for them us knows what that is). In addition you had to be multilingual to be understood (apart from the internationally known phrase **** off which is always clear). I took a heavy 12 ft feeder rod and my mates supplied the feathers and a 3oz lead. With this rig I could only manage to cast about 15 yard as my rod was not beefy enough. I switched down to a 1.5 oz course fishing lead and was then able to chuck it 50 yard. So first lesson learnt, get a proper rod. After 10 minutes casting and retrieving I was rewarded with my first-ever sea fish:

No idea what it was but it was a welcome milestone and duly returned. I then got my first mackerel ever:

This was followed by several others and at one point I had 4 on a string. When I had a dozen that was enough for the pot so I stopped and watch my mates , the continual casting and retrieving was playing hell with my right arm anyway. At 11oclock we all had our quota so time for gutting and cleaning. Now I am as nimble as a mountain goat but Chesil Beach shingle is very unforgiving and I managed to fall my length into the surf. Here I am emerging:20180806_204335.jpg
I have been down the Pub tonight to mull over the days results and discovered that I have been rechristened Neptune. Enjoyed the morning and will be doing it again but need some sound advice as I don't have a clue. Pete (Neptune, although I prefer Poseidon)

Well done Bracket.

You did better than me in extracting some fish from the sea today.

I spent the last few hours of daylight casting lures off Westgate Bay, no fish but I did catch a glorious Turneresque sunset, who needs fish?

My new found sea fishing pal and mentor managed just one small bass on lures but had a few on bait, he thinks tomorrow will be better!

Looks like a small Pollack Pete. One method if you find feathering tiring which it is; think of pop up. Carp rod or beach rod if you get one, 1oz weight or more-enough to hold bottom in the current, arsely bomb fished Leger style with about 3-6ft tail but attach a cork coarse float small with a bit of red on it helps about 12 inches from the hook. Sandeel or fish strip on the hook, herring or mackerel bought from a fishmongers before you go, small strips about 3/4 inches long. PVA string, tie the baited hook to the main line before you cast-stops it all tangling as you cast. When you cast the lot well settle on the bottom and the PVA string will melt and the bait will float up with the float and waft about in the current. You will need a beach type rod rest to prop your rod up (you being handy you can make one, think of tripod, three lengths of 6ft-8ft aluminum or wood, screws, angle brackets, wing nuts, adjustable legs if poss- or buy one)---. thumping bites as the mackerel hit it, or anything else, a bass might give you a run for your money; beats all that casting.
Sounds complicated but easy enough when you do it. Take two rods, one set up like this and a bit of feathering as well-when you need a break your still fishing-Clear or clearish sea best for this type of fishing.
Glad you caught some fish...
PS- ssorry but it needs saying-you don't quite cut it emerging from the sea, this is how its done-

Mark. Thanks for all the advice, taken on board. Regarding the photo comparison. There is a definite similarity, our Tits are about the same size. Pete

Managed a quick couple of hours this afternoon at my local Mere! It was a lot cooler than yesterday and last week with a strong breeze! My preferred swim was occupied so I chose this one;

View attachment 5328

The gap between the lily pads was narrow and the pads on the right were extensive. I didn't have my rake with me but I will take it next time!i took my Hardy 11'6" Avon rod to see if I could land a lump within the tight timeframe and this was the result after nearly two hours trying a variety of small boilies, corn and meat!

View attachment 5329

A very nice common just over 16lb caught on a14mm cheesy garlic pellet attached to the hair with a corn bait stop and on a blowback rig!!! I promise I am not going to the dark side!!! It put up a struggle and made for the pads but I was fortunate to be able to persuade it to come out with assistance from the rod! The water at my feet was 6" deep and only a foot deep à rod length out so netting it without doing an Ali Hamidi was difficult as was the release ! I have no intention of getting in the water for any fish without waders! An enjoyable few hours and a real bend in the rod!!

Had a couple of hours trotting a lake outlet and it was quite a prolific session, most of the stuff was just dace and small chub with several chub up to about 3lb. I had a few small bream that certainly lived up to their smelly slimey reputation!
I used a 12ft accy carp waggler and those larger chub took some pulling out of the bankside veg........not a hint of a snapping tip either!

This'll be a fairly brief and very vague report, lest I fall foul of a very generous, but necessarily secretive, host, that occasionally looks in on this forum. I'd also prefer not to incur the wrath of "the police":surrender:.

Today I travelled a bit to catch some fish with a friend. We were actually targeting decent roach, which pretty much failed to turn up. Ended up catching some bigger fish, on both stick and pin and, when the downstream wind got too much, the waggler. Thoroughly enjoyed giving a Browning Sphere and Normark Avenger a thorough workout.

Went back to the lake today and caught 40 odd rudd ranging from a couple of oz to just shy of a pound. At one point my friend (newbie angler/pretends he hates fishing) was reeling in a nice half pound rudd and a pike bit him off, he jumped out of his skin haha! As soon as that happened I got my pike gear out and managed a couple of pike on the savage gear 3d roach "Rudd".. Once you know what they are eating it is so easy to catch them!
It was a great day! watching birds of prey hunt, swans attacking geese, kingfishers running food to their nest, my "beautiful platform" falling to bits and perch munching baby frogs in the shallows (the better half ended up making them a sanctuary with some Canadian pond weed). Would love to try and tackle the carp I know are in there but its tricky because the rudd will eat anything and their mouths are surprisingly large! The biggest Rudd of the day managed to eat a BIG lump of bread (tench bait size) on the dropp ffs. Wanted to try a boily but my drill has gone AWOL.

I heard whispers in the wind about a few hours that I could misplace tomorrow so might go back and build a better platform and rake some of the horrible weed out.
