12 codgers turned up today on the canal at Marsworth. I always seem to get the same peg but I don't mind as they're all good here.

As is my wont I fished punch for roach just over the near shelf, a swing out on 13' rod. The roach duly obliged and I caught steadily for the whole 5 hours, unfortunately no skimmers or bream showed up.
At the scales I had 7lb:2oz (all roach) which was enough for 2nd overall, I was beaten by just 12oz.
3rd had 5:15.

What a quality net of slivers Peter, I love fishing for roach on canals I don't do much of it nowadays, understatement I don't do any of it!

Great net of slivers nice pictures thanks for that! I'll add pictures of my next trip to this thread.

Crabbing....just the best fun ever. My kids loved it and I dare say still do. One time down at Brixham Harbour my daughter had not one but two respectable sized eels on the crab line. Hysterically funny really doesnt do it justice......one of my all time best ever memories.

Today i picked up one of the crabs, a small one no larger than a hook packet and it pinched my finger. Then it carried on applying more pressure, i simply could not believe the power in that tiny claw, unbelievable. Thought i was going to lose the end of my finger and made some girly noises, much to the family's amusement. Personally i found their lack of empathy worrying and may have to keep bringing this up.

I tried floatfishing an isome worm on a jig. Didn't get any fish but caught a few crabs, they really wanted to eat the lures - the hook didn't get involved but they swallowed enough lure that i could lift them out.

Wafted a couple of lugworm around again today, the difference being I changed my float and trace but still no fish. However I did have 3 bites, the first two I struck to early, note to self your not trotting, the 3rd bite a fish had bitten the lugworm off up-to the hook. Then the next cast was my last as I had a tangle develop in the line which I just couldn't unravel so wound it on the reel and packed up; must remember to deal with that before I next go.
Its a shame there is not a competition for wafting lugworms around and get points deducted for fish; I would win that. Anyway, 3 bites is progress and I am done for a spell, duties beckon so over to all you professionals.

Hi all. Been away from here for a bit, and not doing much fishing recently.
Visited the club ponds for a wander round and had a couple of evenings using up bait from the freezer ahead of a house move. Some rather dry looking luncheon meat of unknown age and provenance was chosen by dint of it dropping onto my foot when I opened freezer door. It was good enough for a few bites from roach up to 6ozs a couple of small but feisty tench and 3 carp from four pound to low double. No scales with me at the time. Perhaps I should have a bit more self-belief. Did take some photos so if I ever get sorted posting them I should have evidence that I can catch fish still.
It won't be so long til next time.

The four musketeers namely Markcw, Wetthrough and yours truly from FM and Colin a mate of Marks met up today at Lloyds Meadow Fishery in deepest Cheshire! It is a beautiful spot!

Mark and Colin fished the pole whilst Gordon and I fished the float! I also christened my new Hardy bomb rod( it's a peach as described by Binka)! We all caught loads of fish including feisty small mirrors, :)roach, bream, ide, commons and a ghost carp! Gordon was well into dozens by the end! Mark had the largest carp, a common around 8lb or so!

I was fortunate to catch a few crucians which have to be one of the most delightful fish to catch! This was the largest!

A great day in beautiful surroundings( near Delamere Forest) with good company and good fishing! Thanks Mark and Gordon !:)

Nipped down to the Derwent at Darley Park for a few hours, try out the new feeder rod. Lost a nice Chub on a rather large rock, gutted. Ten minutes later had this suprise, went 2lb 12oz, fought very well and tried for the rock, I was having none of it and waded in to get out of trouble, it was well worth the wet trainers. Well impressed with the rod, a Greys Prodigy Specimen 12 foot feeder. Was going to try and trot but the wind was a blinking nightmare, along with the dogs and Crayfish!!

I've not been terribly well of late so fishing was pretty low on my list of priorities....today being my first trip out for a good 3 months. Wasnt sure how I'd cope but the answer was surprisingly well. I'm knackered now but it was good to get out again.

Sadly the fish did not want to know and it was literally the odd fish ( or not) for everybody and the lake was pretty busy as one bank was off limits due to a match. Me and the Big Feller ended up on highly rated swims but got absolutely grebed out...damn things were diving in front of us all day giving false bites and no doubt spooking the fish. When the grebes left us alone we had the odd half bite from what we guessed were small fish....and so it proved with us both having small rudd. I managed a little joey tench and Phil lost a proper one and that was it. Shame...as conditions were cock on but it was good to get a bit of fresh air. We packed early after I hooked one of the adult grebes which fortunstely got off...hell of a bite though !

Should have taken the carp gear as the only carper on the lake had had 5 fish by the time we left...the smallest 17 and 4 over twenty with the best 24lb odd. Not bad for a day on a lake where the carp predominantly come out after dark. He was doing nothing special either...a gentle lob with a free running rig. He's there for two nights so he's off to a flyer already.

I've missed the fishing but I most certainly have NOT missed the M25.

As Mike said Four of went to Lloyds Meadow near Frodsham today, I am sure we said about 9 o clock to meet there, I duly arrived at 9 and lo and behold Mike and Gordon are already fishing !! They had been there since about 8 o clock, Anyway I informed them that there were better pegs on the pool,:wh We were fishing Badger Pool, the one we tried to get on last time, Gordon was casting across to the island and getting silvers, Mike had had a few fish using his vast array of baits he takes, less is more Mike !! Collin arrived about 15 minutes later so we went a few pegs further along, I mentioned to Mike about the perch in there liking prawns, The reply I got was I have got prawns and some mussels, Gordon came out with a reply asking what else he had,All we needed was the chef from the Goshawk pub around the corner and we could have had a meal with the other edible baits mike had brought,
As for the fishing, Collin fished across to the island at between 11.5 and 14 metres catching small mirror carp around a pound and a half fishing pellet shallow, while baiting the margins, I was bone idle I couldn't be bothered fishing across to the island, I fished between 5 and 7 metres down the centre, I was catching roach and skimmers on maggot while baiting the margins with corn and also baiting another swim down the centre with pellets, A change to a banded 6mm pellet brought more roach and then the small mirrors moved in, I had a run of those, then when it went quiet I dropped into my margin swim, I was using a 4 metre Shimano beastmaster with 18 elastic through the top section to 7lb line,6lb hooklength with a size 14 hook and a 4x14 cutdown float, for the margin swim. These margin carp in Badger know where to head for when hooked, namely the adjoining platform in the next swim or the nearest snag, I had a few from the margin, Mike posted a pic of one, I kept seeing the landing nets of both Mike and Gordon coming into play to net their fish, I think Mike Gordon and Collin went for quantity, I went for Quality :wh Overall,it was a great day, in great company again and the rain stayed away, in fact I was fishing in a polo shirt it was that warm, Oh and Mike those imitation worms stink to high heaven . Thanks guys for a great day.

Back down to Little Britain for the baby Carp yesterday afternoon. I'm due an operation next week so I wanted to get a couple of sessions in before I'm housebound for a week...

Got set up and realised I left the corn, bread and meat in a bag in my car  Never fear, I keep a small tin of corn in my bag anyway, and I'd made some "groundbait" by mixing some Robin Red paste with milled pellets. 2 small balls of that went in with a few grains of corn.

I had about 30 or so carp, from a few ounces to just over a pound in a 3 hour session. Float fished about 3 inches over depth on a 16 and single grain of corn. I put 2 SSG on my feeder rod with a 14 and a pair of grains into the margin. The bigger carp fell to this, and I also hooked into either a bigger Carp or Tench, but the hook pulled after a few seconds

I put some new 3lb Maxima on my float rod which filled the spool nicely, allowing me to cast light floats some distance.

So, last session until after my op, but it gave me some enjoyment. These baby Carp are going to make this a decent place to fish in a few years.

Had a great session on our little river yesterday and caught my first river chub. We have been watching these fish for a while now and yesterday we caught one - my first river chub.

The full story can be seen HERE on our blog, for anyone who is interested.

I went to a fishery called Lingmere, on the Wirral, which has a reputation for good up in the water evening fishing.

Never a truer word spoken, I set up a shallow pole rig with a Drennan Crystal Dibber and a banded 4mm pellet. I fished the top 4 of my Beastmaster pole in order to be able to accurately throw pellets cack-handed.

Started at 16:30 and at 16:31 had my first F1 and this continued, unabated, until we packed at 20:30. I was throwing half a dozen pellets and dropping the float in on top. If that didn’t result in the elastic shooting out of the end of the pole then slapping the rig over invariably did.

I lost count of the number of fish (but a clicker is en-route from Amazon) but a conservative estimate would be 60-70 with a weight of well over 100lb.

The weatherman said on last nights forecast that it would be raining by lunchtime today. After several trips to both the sea and river using nothing but lures I had a yearning to trot a maggot or two so picked up a pint in Blean Angling and made my way into town where I’d spotted a glide that looked almost free of weed and trottable.

I was catching small dace from the off but being a novice, the combination of using a pin with a very light stick float in windy conditions was not a good choice of setup, plenty of cursing between catching dace having to untangle but I persevered and added a bonus perch and roach into the mix.

No chub today, my landing net is starting to feel unloved, wasn’t needed for this one that’s for sure, what species is this?

The forecast was spot on with rain arriving by midday, glad to have got a couple of hours on the river and will return tomorrow or shall I go to the estate which I haven’t visited in a few weeks? decisions, decisions.

Is it really!

Believe it or not, that’s the first I’ve caught from this river which is sadly totally devoid of Gudgeon and until today I thought Minnows too.

There are zero Bleak too which must be counted as a blessing.
