2 weeks is a long time Steve. The Idle doesn't usualy flood that bad anyway.
There are plenty of stillwaters and canals about........or a golf course right next to the Idle!!!

It would be better if the Idle had some colour in it. The last time I fished it the river was crystal clear and from past experience these conditions are not good.

If it is dire, there is Bank End or Alderfen match lake which is not far away and fishes very well I am told.

Fingers crossed it's okay on the day.

It is seriously lashing it down down here, the river was already right up, I think this is gonna take it over the banks.

Gonna go for a drive now and have a look.

Golf?.....silly boy ;)

I hope you're right Paul ;)

It's still in the banks down here, but on the rise! Two foot and it'll be over!

I stopped of to see if my favourite Severn backwater was OK to fish.... the main river was up to her limits and holding back any flood water the trib needed to get rid of......i couldn't get near!

My mouth is watering now at the fishing that will be there for for the taking soon :)

You lucky bu**er! Wish we had some tribs down here like that :(

LOL......it sounds good, but trying to catch the right conditions are a nightmare!....it usually happens mid week and the "window" is gone by the time i can get there.

I'm sure John would have excused our little diversion from the original thread :wh

If things settle it could be a tremendous match.

Don't worry! Not until the middle of next week anyway!! As Ron says there are plenty of still water back-ups in the area.

I'll check with the landlady of the Haxey Gate and post the breakfast time, the draw time and the all in time later this week.

Nice one Sean, very well organised.

Does the pub ticket cover the water above the bridge?

I might do the match, not sure? It depends if Brummie will look after Wendi for me, pike fishing I mean ;)

Fingers crossed we get the mild spell, it's brass monkeys down here at the mo'

Hi Steve

The pub water is upstream of the bridge. There isn't a great deal of difference between the 2 stretches, although the water between the foot bridge and the road bridge has a reputation as a bit of a hotspot.

Cant wait will be out this weekend practicing, so will be used to blanking by next weekend!

I will bring a muffler/silencer for J Spiller as I've heard by all account he's a bit of a snoorer, plus he shouts in his sleep about making love to 20lb Barbel!

Looking forward to showing you chaps from up North how real fisherman do it, down here in the tropical south :)

:D hahahahahaha

I've heard the reverse overhead cast can be very effective.........
............for beachcasting.....

He'll be okay Rickrod, if he has any probs he should go and sit next to Marsbar for the duration of the match. Not for advice, just to distract him so somebody else stands a chance of winning ;)

That only happened once and it was a very good looking 20lb barbel.
Looking forward to it, I just hope that it's not quite as cold as it was last time, not all finished the match, they retired to the pub, lightweights, saying some thing about " to wet and bloody cold "

Hello Everyone.
My apologies for not posting as often as i should but im ok and will be attending Johns memorial get-together. I may not be fishing the match as i have an important winter-league team match with my local club the following day.I been very busy of late as my wife has had and is still having a series of niggling but painful medical problems entailing numerous hospital visits. Also the rivers in my area as no doubt in most other locations has been virtually unfishable for much of the season.I shall be down for the breakfast and will be happy to meet with many of Johns friends and mine too i hope. My thanks to Fred for letting me know and Steve and Beecy for their concern. We went for a walk today to the Rother valley and the river there was very high and racing through. It is very similar in width to the Idle so if the rain continues as it has this last few days it wil present a challenge for everyone. Hoping to see you all on saturday Mick.
