As Oscar Wilde said" I can resist everything but temptation" so i succumbed ! They say it's been shipped so I shall have to wait and see! I don't need it and am unsure exactly which discipline will improve with it but as I fancied a reel with fighting drag and couldn't decide between the Super GT and the Stradic GTM, this solves the dilemma! Now the question is which line and bs to put on the spools!

I think you've got a bargain theee Mike!
I'd have a stab at one myself but I don't think i'd use it, I have numerous reels that just don't get used

Line choice is a no brainer !

6lb sensor straight through dragged me 18 barbel, three chub and I forgot to mention a dace in yesterday. I didn't mess about with them either so the line was under a lot of pressure for a long time. The line looked like new at the end of the session n'all.

It's ready Ian! My only decision is brown or clear!

There is a spare spool so I will think about 4lb or 8/10 lb on it!

LOL Mike, there's no flies on you bud!
I think i've got 4lb on one spool and 6 on the other in brown which are for an old 2500 shimano gte.
I have an old shimmy Sahara 4000 with 8lb on one spool and 10lb on the other in clear.

It depends on what your gonn'a be using it for really, you can always add a bottom if you need a lower diameter.

You're right Ian! I think I will try a higher bs! I will use the reel for spinning and float fishing and retire the TDM which I have never really got on with!

I wouldn't mind a river session when it cools down!

The reel arrived this morning and all is well! I have a ? Directed I suspect to Sam Vimes but equally to anyone who has this reel regarding the line reducers supplied! It seems to me that when fitted( Stradic C14 4000ra) that the capacity of the reel would be reduced to near zero! I wonder if I have the wrong reducers ! What do you think fellow owners?

It's a very light and smooth reel and looks great!

I think you'll be surprised at just how much 3-6lb line you'll get on there. I put well over 100 metres of 5lb Maxima on one of my spools. If more than 40m has seen the light of day since, I'll be surprised. However, it's rather the point of shallow match spools. They are intended for floatfishing where anything more than 100 metres of line is pretty much wasted. I suspect the fact that you've become familiar with stupidly deep modern spools, rather than the genuinely shallow match spools of 20+ years back, is the biggest issue. However, if you intend to put 6lb+ line on the reel, you may be better served not using the reducers.

Thanks Sam! I will put 4lb line on the spare spool! It is as you say and the reducers do what they are supposed to!! Thanks also for the heads up as I really liked this reel and the price was a bargain!

The reel retrieves line at 98cm per revolution of the handle so the 75 turns will give me around 70 m of line! Amazing! Thanks again Sam !

I’m really lucky to have a good old fashioned hardware shop in Whitstable, a place you could buy fork handles or four candles, infact I bought a new rake head today for the princely sum of £3-50.

But it was a stack of 5kg buckets with lids that caught my angling eye, once used to store fat balls, 10p for Lid and container. I bought five, don’t need that many. But for 50p had to be done. Anyone passing my way is welcome to one or two

Picked up a nice rod in a junk shop last week, there where two rods strapped together for £10, one beach caster which I did not want, got 3 and a 12ft 2.75 JRC Defender Carbon carp rod in perfect condition, looked new not a mark on it. I asked the assistant if I could have the carp rod for £5 and she agreed. Really nice rings on it and its going to be a perfect bass/mullet rod for me.

I clicked on an Angling Direct banner ad for Pro Gold cos it said " price drop".

110yds of 12lb for £75.99 which ( allegedly) is 20% off the rrp of £94.99  WTF ?

Best be quick......only 2 spools left ! :)

Quick question Skippy, does pro gold float or is it a sinking line?

Fishing Republic are doing the Thesius seat box for £18.99 & free delivery, Its a lot less than half price Padded seat, 2 front drawers, depp base unit, 25mm legs,
carry strap, worth a punt for keeping a few bits in and using as Grab n Go box for quick session somewhere, or give to junior who is getting into fishing, You couldn't buy a set of four 25mm legs for £18.99 so they could be spare box/footplate legs if required.
