Anyone heard anything on the Aldi and Lidl front lately, it seems unusually quiet?

I had a look around my local Lidl yesterday and there was little if anything on the fishing front, not even the famous polaroids.

Thanks for the heads up Mike, but no thanks :).....personally I wouldn't have cadence gear for free!
I'd rather use propper gear....drennan for example :).

Genuinely interested in what is wrong with the cadence gear, its almost impossible to find any reviews of their rods and I wont buy anything on line unless I know how it performs, are there no shops that stock their stuff?

Are cadence an American company and do they manufacture their own rods?

They don't seem to have them in the shops Graham so it seems you've just gott'a go off reviews off other anglers, off the vidoes they keep churning out or find someone you know who has one to have a look at it. Maybe they'd send you one to look at (paid for) and if you don't like it let you send it back for a refund.
I've seen enough to know i'd say a drennan acolyte blows them out by a country mile ....imo of course :).

No, their whole business model revolves around selling direct to the public.

Originally an American brand centred on the spinning market. James Robbins got involved and launched Cadence in the UK with rods aimed at UK coarse anglers. As far as I'm aware, their rods are manufactured in the far east.

I've seen a couple of their rods now, but not used them. They may prove to be better in use than the vague hint given by a waggle and a good coat of looking at. Initial impressions are that they are pretty good for the money. However, though I feel that they will compare favourably with many rods costing £20-50 more from a tackle shop, they aren't the high end killers that some have overhyped them to be.

They offer a 30 day money back guarantee so you could buy, try for a couple of weeks and, if you don't like it, send it back for a refund!

It's on line only but they do have open days at some fisheries.
I have not seen there rods or reels in the flesh but James Robbins seems to be well thought of.

Unfortunately not, their returns policy is 14 days, in the original undamaged packaging and in perfect condition. Which I assumed means unused.

No! Under distance selling regulations you are entitled to return the goods even if they are perfect and you have simply changed your mind and at no cost! Their site clearly states 30 day money back guarantee which can only be different! The site doesn't clarify exactly what this covers and as I have no interest in the product I have not enquired further! Seek clarification if you are interested!

Mike

There was a long thread on this on maggotdrowning. You won’t get your money back if the rod has been used

Fair enough! Their adverts and website are misleading then! As stated I am not interested in their products and know nothing about them . The legal position and the principles of misrepresentation may well tell a different story but who wants the hassle for a £100 rod!

Fishing Republic are advertising a 1/2 price Drennan clearance event

I did wonder how Drennan would react to FR offering big discounts on Drennan stuff earlier in the year. The fact that the stock was dwindling gave a hint, but this clearance, and the FR website saying they are no longer Drennan stockists, answers the question.

Sam's already given a good reply to this.
There's nothing "wrong" with them - but they may not be right for you or better for you than "x" other brand.
There's a review by Mark Sawyer in this week's Angling Times of two of the rods more suited to commercial carp match scene.
Personally - I had the opportunity to borrow a 13ft #2 float rod for a couple of matches and was impressed enough to buy two of them. But, as you'll see from other threads, I tend to buy 2nd or third tier rather than the very highest rated rods (i've never owned a Normark, Carbotec or Drennan rod).

I've written elsewhere that I was originally concerned that they'd fall too much in the middle ground (i wanted a rod that would go from fine wire 22 to 0.07 hooklength up to 16 forged and 0.15 for chub and Barbel). However - I'm happy to report that they cover my requirements very well.

I've spoken with a few other river match anglers who've bought them and are impressed - although that could be confirmation bias.

They are match oriented, not specialist. As well as website, Facebook and open days at fisheries - they also attend angling shows.

Many of us I expect wear ready readers glasses for close up work.
Last Sunday I had to take swmbo to a retail outlet for a little therapy.
We arranged a time and a place to meet and split up.
I couldn't help noticing a big sign in Poundworlds window saying big clearout as closing down.
Going in many of the shelves were already empty but the one with the ready reading glasses had a sign saying "Ten pairs for 50p " it was rude not to take them up on the offer and should be ok now for a year or two !

Thanks very very much for this heads up. I was looking at these and thinking " can I really spend the £80 on one." Well at half price I certainly can have one. Ordered and dispatched.
Thanks again.
